Travelling to Thessaloniki

Flights from all major European cities to Thessaloniki last 2 to 4 hours. Flights to Thessaloniki are available by many airlines from various parts of Europe. The international airport of Thessaloniki, named Macedonia airport, is approximately 15 km east of the city.


From Macedonia International Airport of Thessaloniki bus Line 78, route Airport - KTEL Station, goes directly to the city centre. It takes 60 minutes. A taxi to the city centre takes 30 minutes.

Thessaloniki has regular city bus services. Tickets can be purchased from the Thessaloniki Urban Transport Organization (OASTH) desks 07.00 – 21.00, or from automatic vending machines on board buses.


You can travel to Thessaloniki from anywhere in the world via Athens. The distance from Athens is about 500 kilometres and there are several flights a day (air time from Athens to Thessaloniki is about an hour).



By Train

Thessaloniki has a main railway station to the west of the city. You can take a bus or a taxi from the station to reach the city centre, your hotel or the HELEXPO complex.


By Car

  • From ATHENS: E75 motorway to Thessaloniki
  • From IGOUMENITSA (if coming from Italy): take E90 (Ioannina – Grevena – Veroia – Kleidi) and switch to E75 for Thessaloniki
  • From FYROM: E75 to Thessaloniki
  • From BULGARIA: E79 to Thessaloniki
  • From TURKEY: E90 (Alexandroupolis – Kavala) to Thessaloniki


How to get to Helexpo

The Helexpo complex is in the city centre and within walking distance from most hotels.

The main entrance to the conference centre is on 154 Egnatia Avenue. Various OASTH buses stop at the stop “Sintrivani”.

Helexpo is also accessible via the south gate. To reach the south gate you can take a bus to the stop “HANTH”.
